After discovering fansubs of the ToraDora! anime, I went on to find fan translation projects for the ToraDora! light novels at Baka-Tsuki.net. After actually reading some of these translations (and other officially translated Japanese light novels), however, I've come to the conclusion that (at least the majority of) Japanese light novels translate poorly into traditional and contemporary English prose.
Thus came the inception of this English adaptation project. The first thing to note is that this project seeks to adapt, not translate, the ToraDora! Light novels. After all, I do not know how to read Japanese (thus, cannot translate it) and even though the Japanese ToraDora! light novels are the original source material for the series, this work will deal with adapting the fan translated versions into a form more suited for and familiar to native English readers. This project could also be thought of me praticing my (liberally) creative editing skills.
Secondly, I would also like to note that though the goal of this project is to adapt the ToraDora! light novels to English, it does not seek to transpose them out from Japan and the cultural environment the original narrative takes place in. As such, Japanese naming conventions (family name first, given name last), honorifics, and cultural references, will remain intact within the adaptation but also explained through the natural narrative flow.
Finally, this work is not an entirely original creation. Proper credit needs to be given to the original author of the ToraDora! light novels, Yuyuko Takemiya. The illustrations included in the ToraDora! light novels (and also used in this adaptation) were created by an artist known as Yasu.
The fan translation this work is based off of is hosted at Baka-Tsuki. The current translators at the time of this writing are listed as: Kinny Riddle, Trabius, and Pliky. Editors listed are: Dan, Chansey, Akira, Nobuharu.
